The black-currant obsession

No. 101 gave me my favorite individual note in either discovery set: the black currant.

The discovery-set sample featured here was provided to The Oakmoss & Ivy by Fischersund and De Lara Studio for independent editorial consideration. No payment was received. Gifted product does not determine our conclusions, and the brand did not preview or approve the 9.5/10 rating or review.

Fischersund turned out to be one of those houses where testing a fragrance once was not enough. I kept returning to the tins, sometimes several times in the same day, because there was always something strange, atmospheric, or unexpectedly addictive hiding inside them.

No. 101 may have provided my favorite individual note in either discovery set: the black currant. It is phenomenal. Tart, dark, and immediately recognizable, it gives the fragrance a distinct identity without becoming the syrupy berry effect found in many sweeter scents.

Fischersund describes No. 101 as an interpretation of the herbaceous backyards of Reykjavik. The house highlights chervil, Arctic angelica, black currant, withered grass, bergamot, cottonwood, poplar pine, and red sorrel. Those green and woody materials give the fruit somewhere natural and slightly weathered to live.

The supplied community reference data leans fruity, woody, aromatic, and black currant. It suggests roughly six hours of longevity with moderate sillage. The technical framing makes sense, but the black currant is still the part that kept pulling me back.

There is a useful bridge here for someone whose cabinet already includes polished designer scents such as Armani. Fischersund can sit beside those bottles, but it brings a stranger sense of place and texture. Across my wears of the collection, the standouts drew many compliments.

After returning to it throughout the discovery-set testing, No. 101 lands at 9.5/10 for me. The black currant is extraordinary, the green woods keep it composed, and the fragrance remains distinctive without becoming difficult to wear. A full bottle is now firmly on my list.
